Future Cities Canada was founded in 2018 by five organizations: the McConnell Foundation, TD Bank Group, Evergreen, Maison de l'innovation sociale and Community Foundations of Canada.

A growing network of partners is supporting this collaborative platform and participating initiative-wide, as well as through specific programs and projects.

Infrastructure Canada

The Government of Canada has selected Evergreen, working in partnership with OpenNorth, and their Future Cities Canada collaborative platform to deliver advisory and capacity-building services for Smart Cities Challenge applicant and finalist communities as they explore and implement smart cities approaches. This funding is awarded under the new Smart Cities Community Support Program.

Its network extends across Canada and globally through communities of practice and open government partners. Open North is the lead technical partner of the Community Solutions Network, a program that delivers advisory and capacity-building services for Smart Cities Challenge applicant and finalist communities as they explore and implement smart cities approaches.

AI for Good is Microsoft's commitment to empower those working around the world to solve humanitarian issues and create a more sustainable and accessible world.  AI for Earth, a pillar of the AI for Good program,  puts AI technology and cloud software in the hands of those working to solve global climate issues. Evergreen has been awarded an AI for Earth grant to develop a unique scalable planning and prediction data visualization tool that will help city builders better evaluate infrastructure projects, plan for and mitigate impacts of climate risk and invest effectively for the future. Using Microsoft’s cloud and AI tools, this solution will be put in the hands of municipalities and organizations across Canada who are working to protect our planet.
