In partnership with NACTO, the Community Solutions Network is delivering an innovation workshop for municipal city staff and Indigenous leaders from across the region of British Columbia who are interested in mobility, accessibility, and connection, using data and technology approaches.

It has been 10-years since some of North America’s first bike share systems launched, and it has been 5-years since the ‘disruption’ of dockless systems. The landscape for bike share and scooter share continues to evolve. The rise of e-bikes has made waves across North America, and naturally e-bikes have found a home in bike share systems as well. This innovation changes how people move through cities, and cities in British Columbia have recently begun incorporating it into their systems.

Join NACTO, Evergreen, and practitioners in municipalities in British Columbia for a session on the implementation of e-bikes in their communities and in the region.

The workshop features an interesting panel conversation where practitioners will present on their best practices, lessons learned and discuss:

  • How to ensure safe, equitable access to these modes?
  • How to connect e-bikes to the larger mobility network?
  • What are some of the best practice approaches to pilot new technologies?
  • What is the role of regional collaboration?
  • How can we measure success?

Following the presentations, the session will break out into smaller groups to have discussions on key challenges and opportunities around bikeshare systems and how to move around your community more efficiently.

Speakers include:

  • Cary Bearn, Senior Program Manager, Biking, NACTO (moderator)
  • Mirtha Gamiz, Planner, New Mobility, Translink
  • Kati Tamashiro, Manager Transportation Design, City of Vancouver
