Housing Supply Challenge Support Program
We help applicants of the Housing Supply Challenge by providing guidance, mentorship and the resources needed to develop and improve their submission.
What is the Housing Supply Challenge?
Led by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), the program encourages residents, communities, interested individuals and groups, and experts from across Canada to propose innovative solutions that help break down the barriers that limit new housing supply. Each round awards proposals that address housing supply barriers such as building timelines, construction productivity, and improving data on land availability.

Oct. 2020 — Sep. 2021
The Data Driven: Data Solutions for Informed Decision-Making Round. Applicants were invited to propose data solutions or methodologies that provide decision-makers with better information to make housing supply decisions.
Applications are now closed. 21 shortlisted applicants received incubation funding to prototype their solution. 14 prototypes were selected for funding to start implementing their solutions.

The Getting Started: Pre-development Processes Round. Applicants were invited to propose and develop locally relevant solutions that remove barriers to the development of housing that is affordable, with a specific focus on the pre-construction phase of projects.
Applications are now closed. 29 shortlisted applicants received incubation funding to prototype their solution. 14 prototypes were selected for funding to start implementing their solutions.

Feb. — Jun. 2022
The Northern Access: Supply Chain Solutions for Northern and Remote Housing Round seeks solutions that reduce the time, cost, and risk to access resources for building and maintaining appropriate northern and remote housing supply.
33 shortlisted applicants have been selected to refine and develop a plan to implement their solution using the incubation funding. You can find out more about their innovative solutions on CMHC’s website.

The fourth Challenge Round – Building for the Future: Innovative Construction for Housing Affordability – invites applicants to submit solutions that provide innovative construction processes, techniques, systems, or materials that will increase the supply of housing that is affordable, resilient and meets people’s needs.
Applications are now closed. Shortlisted applicants to be announced in July 2023.
