My Future Home: Older Adults Session Reports

By Evergreen

What will the future of housing look like for older adults? The My Future Home Older Adults Reports provide an overview of future housing insights and aspirations shared by individuals ages 47 and up in the My Future Home sessions.

Two My Future Home Older Adult sessions were held in 2022:

  • Regional Older Adults – attended by individuals ages 47 and up in the Greater Toronto & Hamilton Area & Niagara Region
  • National Older Adults – attended by individuals aged 47 and up across Canada

Individuals ages 47 and up in these two sessions shared their aspirational futures for housing in Canada in the year 2040, and what actions they think the private sector, public sector, community sector and individuals need to take to get us there.

Common themes emerged, with many session participants conveying the desire for independence at home with access to intergenerational community, nature, and services nearby. Conversations around aging in place pushed back against traditional assisted living home models and outlined the lack of options for aging populations in Canada. These aspirations sparked vibrant conversations on how to achieve a just housing future across Canada.
