My Future Home: Youth Session Reports

By Evergreen

What do youth in Canada envision as their housing future? The My Future Home Youth Reports provide an overview of future housing insights and aspirations shared by youth in the My Future Home sessions.

Three My Future Home Youth sessions were held in 2022:

  • Regional Youth 18-24 – attended by youth aged 18-24 in the Greater Toronto & Hamilton Area & Niagara Region
  • Regional Youth 25-29 – attended by youth aged 25-29 in the Greater Toronto & Hamilton Area & Niagara Region
  • National Youth– attended by youth aged 18-29 across Canada

Youth in these three sessions shared their aspirational futures for housing in Canada in the year 2040, and what actions they think the private sector, public sector, community sector and individuals need to take to get us there.

Common themes emerged, with many session participants conveying that they want a future with access to nature and sustainable food, access to services and community and affordable home ownership. Unique conversations about co-ownership and land back also challenged traditional approaches to home ownership. These aspirations sparked vibrant conversations on how to achieve a just housing future in Canada.
