Stephen Crocker

Indigenous Engagement Consultant . Operations; Business development; Program design and training.

Stephen Crocker was Operations Manager for Indian Oil Sands Economic Development Corporation, a company owned by the Indian Association of Alberta that developed business plans for First Nations wishing to start a business.

As self-government coordinator for the Métis Nation of Alberta he assisted with the development of the Métis Framework Agreement with the Province of Alberta. Stephen helped establish Apeetogosan (Métis) Development Corporation and was the original Operations Manager. For 11 years Stephen was a self-employed consultant assisting Indigenous people with the preparation of business plans and market studies in Western and Northern Canada.

As Manager, Indigenous Initiatives at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT), Stephen’s responsibilities included making the business arrangements to bring NAIT’s programs to Indigenous communities in Northern and Western Canada. Programs were delivered throughout Alberta, and in NWT, Northern BC, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. Many of the programs that Stephen arranged were labour market related that would lead to employment at the end of the program. The bulk of those programs were trade related, in oil patch trades (welding, pipe fitting/steam fitting, and millwright).  Many First Nation communities requested construction trades (carpentry, electrical, plumbing, drywall etc) so that their members could access employment on their housing crews upon completion. In doing so, Stephen assisted with the customization of apprenticeship curriculum and adding other modules such as, math refresher course, blue print reading, safety certification, etc.
