Facilitator: Ben Borne

The Communications Workshop will be facilitated by Ben Borne of Symmetry PR. Ben is a communications professional on paper, but a relationship builder at heart. In another life, he imagined himself on the conductor’s podium of large orchestras or shooting movies in Hollywood. Somewhere on the way, he fell in love with storytelling – believing communications has the power to create inclusive, generous, and responsible communities. He was born in Saskatoon and is from Yellow Quill First Nation.

Ben is Canada’s first self-identified Indigenous certified Communication Management Professional (CMP). Ben is an International award-winning communication professional winning an IABC Gold Quill Award in 2021. In 2020, he was listed on CBC’s Future40 list in the business and entrepreneurship category, and in 2023 was the recipient of Royal Roads University’s Founders’ Award for demonstration of exemplary qualities including leadership, commitment to sustainability, positive and proactive work in equity, diversity and inclusion and personal growth. Ben is a closet nerd – a Trekkie, Whovian and whatever Star Wars fans call themselves. When he’s not bawling his eyes out to “This is Us” or other sappy dramas on Netflix, he enjoys reading, listening to music, pretending to be a hardcore gamer, and travelling.
